Browns lose to Vikings, 34-20

Brady Quinn - Cleveland Browns | Kevin Williams - Minnesota VikingsSo begins the Brady Quinn era.

Honestly, I didn’t expect much today. Still, after last night’s loss by Ohio State, I was hoping the Browns could pull this one off. It just wasn’t to be.

Cleveland was leading at halftime, thanks to a punt return TD by Josh Cribbs. They were up 13-10 at the half. While a lead at the half was nice, there was one disconcerting thing about it - no offensive touchdowns. This is what the Browns could not produce the last 6 games of the previous season. Now they were in danger of extending that streak.

In the second half, the defense gave up 24 unanswered points, putting the game well out of reach. After the Vikings’ last score, I turned the TV off. I’d seen enough.

USC Ohio St FootballUnbelievable.

Or, not surprising. Either one will fit.

Ohio State was not supposed to win this game. They barely beat Navy last week. USC was coming off a lopsided win. Ohio State, an “overrated” #8 was an underdog at home to #3 USC. The Buckeyes were supposed to lose.

But something happened. For 53 minutes, the Buckeyes outplayed the Trojans. With 7:29 left in the game, Ohio State was up 15-10 with USC starting at their own 14 yard line. After a sack and a false start, it looked like the Buckeyes’ defense, which was tough all night, would get the ball back for the offense again.

But then something else happened. (more…)

Ohio State beats Navy, 31-27

Brian Rolle - Ohio State BuckeyesThe Ohio State Buckeyes opened the 2009 season at home, barely holding on to beat unranked Navy.

Were it not for Brian Rolle (pictured) intercepting Ricky Dobbs’ 2-point conversion pass and returning it into the end zone for 2 points, the game would have been tied and Navy would have had the chance to steal the game.

Cavs beat Warriors, 106-105

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

I typically post an update on the Cavaliers every so often. That’s because it’s hard to keep up with the team living in Kentucky. I usually have no choice but to read the recaps and watch highlights. I never get to watch a game. Until tonight.

Utah defeats Alabama in the Sugar Bowl

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Tonight in New Orleans, contrary to everyone’s expectations (at least everyone outside of the state of Utah), the Utah Utes beat Alabama 31-17 to finish the season undefeated, 13-0.

This game represents what is so great and what is so bad about college football.
