Cavs beat Suns, 107-90 - Big Z Breaks a Record

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Zydrunas Ilgauskas - Cleveland CavaliersBig game for the Cavaliers tonight. They beat the Phoenix Suns by 17 points and improved to 13-5 on the year. But more than the score and their record, this game was great for several reasons.

#1 - Zydrunas Ilgauskas broke the team record for number of games played at 724. I love Z. He is, hands down, my favorite Cavs player ever (yes, even more than LeBron James). He has played his entire career in a Cleveland uniform and battled through foot injuries to make it this far. This year he has had to move to the bench with the addition of Shaquille O’Neal and is adjusting to that in the best interest of the team.

Congrats, Z. Hope to see you help this team finally win a championship this year as well.

Cavs beat Magic, 102-93 - Shaq Neutralizes Dwight Howard

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Shaquille O'Neal - Cleveland Cavaliers | Dwight Howard - Orlando MagicThe Orlando Magic was the team that ended the Cavaliers season last year in the Eastern Conference Finals. They gave the Cavs too many match-up problems. So Danny Ferry set out this offseason to add the missing pieces needed to be able to beat the Magic in a 7-game series.

The most notable of these additions was Shaquille O’Neal. The former Magic center’s role would be to cause problems for current Magic center Dwight Howard - make it difficult for him to score, get him into foul trouble.

Lebron James - Cleveland Cavaliers

2 more wins to get to the Finals.

2 reasons why the Cavs won this game:

  • Lebron got some help: Mo Williams (24pts), Zydrunas Ilgauskas (16pts).
  • The Magic’s 3 point shooting came back to earth (32%, as opposed to 45% in game 4).

Next stop, Orlando. Let’s see if they can keep this going.

Cavs are One Loss from Elimination

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Lebron James - Cleveland Cavaliers The Cavs lost again tonight to the Magic, going down 3-1 in the series. Sure, it was another close game (116-114 in OT), just like the loss in game 1. But that doesn’t change the fact that Cleveland now has to win 3 straight against a tough Magic team or else they’re done.

How did it come to this?

Cavs Update, 11.17.08

Monday, November 17th, 2008

It’s been a little while since I mentioned the Cavaliers. I have to admit, it’s much easier to do regular updates on Browns and Buckeyes football since they only play once a week. With basketball games every 2-3 days, it’s hard to keep up with it all from a distance. But here’s the latest update.

And So It Continues

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

The Cleveland Cavaliers opened the 2008-09 season last night in Boston against the defending champs. The Celtics celebrated their title by passing out championship rings to the players and hoisting banner #17 to the rafters. They also began the defense of their title by beating the Cavaliers 90-85.

Of course, this was provided a good excuse for sportswriters to again talk about Lebron James leaving Cleveland.
