Dan Herron - Ohio State BuckeyesThe Buckeyes rolled into Ann Arbor having already guaranteed their spot in the Rose Bowl after defeating Iowa last week. This one was just about beating Michigan for the sixth straight year.

On the other side of the rivalry, the Wolverines were looking to end their five game losing streak to the Buckeyes. At 5-6, they were needing a win to become bowl eligible. They were losers of six out of their last seven. Michigan needed to win this game.

Fortunately, the Buckeyes weren’t going to let them have it.

The Buckeyes Were Bound to Drop, But This?

Ohio State slipped in the polls to #11 this week, following Saturday night’s loss to USC. I optimistically predicted a #9 ranking. But hey, 11’s not bad. It’s only week 2. There’s still plenty of time for the Buckeyes to move up in the rankings (much to the chagrin of many college football fans).

So the #11 ranking… no big deal. It’s understandable. But what’s not understandable is one set of rankings for the Big Ten conference that has come out this week.

The Big Ten Power Rankings from Rivals.com has the Buckeyes at #4 in the conference. #4? Seriously?! So who do they have ahead of Ohio State?

Ohio State beats Michigan, 42-7

What a way to finish off the regular season.

With the win…

  • The Buckeyes clinch at least a share of the Big Ten title.
  • They win their 5th straight game against Michigan.
  • Beat them by 35 points - the largest margin of victory over the Wolverines since 1968.
  • And they help cap off the Michigan’s worst season. Ever.

Ohio State beats Illinois, 30-20

That’s the number of rushing yards Ohio State had against the Illini. Chris “Beanie” Wells ran for 143 yards. Terrelle Pryor added 110 on the ground. The running game was so effective that Pryor only had to attempt 10 passes.
