Browns beat Chiefs, 41-34

Monday, December 21st, 2009

The Cleveland Browns are on a 2-game winning streak. Most of the credit is due to two men - Josh Cribbs and Jerome Harrison.

Josh Cribbs - Cleveland Browns

Josh Cribbs had not one, but two kickoff return touchdowns in this game. The first, which broke the NFL record for total kickoff return touchdowns, was for 100 yards. The second was 103 yards. Cribbs now has 8 in his career.

Brady Quinn - Cleveland BrownsThis game should not have been close. No one thought it would be, hence the threat of a TV blackout. Surprisingly it was close. Yet the Browns still came up short.

The game started well. The Browns scored first when Brady Quinn hit Mohamed Massaquoi for an 11-yard touchdown pass. According to @OfficialBrowns, it was the team’s first opening-drive touchdown in 35 games. They fell behind 13-7 at halftime, completely lost control of the game in the third quarter, and despite 17 fourth quarter points, they could not come back.

The Browns are now 1-11. Keeping pace are Tampa Bay and St. Louis.

Browns lose to Bengals, 23-20

Braylon Edwards - Cleveland BrownsFollowing the Brady Quinn era that lasted a whole 10 quarters, the Browns played their first full game of the new Derek Anderson era against the Bengals.

I freely admit that I am a Brady Quinn supporter over Derek Anderson. I think he has the potential to be a better long-term solution, despite his terrible start to this season. Anderson is a solid guy to have as a backup QB, but as a starter will likely remain somewhere between average and mediocre.

That being said, DA did have a better game today than BQ has this season. The Browns came close to winning this game, going into overtime. But in overtime, they had three chances on offense to win the game, and all three times they had to punt. Unfortunately the defense couldn’t hold on for a tie and the Bengals kicked a field goal with 7 seconds left for a 23-20 win.

There were some positives in this game though:

Browns lose to Broncos, 27-6

Brady Quinn - Cleveland BrownsI was out for a few hours this afternoon and this evening. I left right after this game started. When I got home and saw the score, I thought to myself, “it’s probably good that I wasn’t home following this game.”

Last week the Browns lost to the Vikings by 14 points. The Vikings are a good team on both sides of the ball. On the other side, you have the Broncos beating the Cincinnati Bengals last week on a fluke play in the final seconds. This game should have been close. It wasn’t.

Browns beat Bills, 29-27

Romeo will survive at least one more week.

Honestly, after Phil Dawson kicked the go-ahead FG, I thought the Bills were going to come back and win. I figured we were looking at a third consecutive loss where this team blew a double-digit lead (and hopefully as a result, would bring about a head coaching change). But the defense forced a long FG attempt for Buffalo. Rian Lindell put it wide right. Cleveland is 2-0 on Monday night.
