Browns lose to Texans, 16-6

Can it get any worse for the Browns?

The Browns were playing host to the Houston Texans on Sunday. This is the Houston team that came in with a 3-7 record, 8 consecutive road losses, and had backup Sage Rosenfels starting at QB. Great chance to pick up a home win in the middle of an already disappointing season. And what do the Browns do? They play like the Michigan Wolverines.

Browns lose to Broncos, 34-30

First, the positives.

Brady Quinn made his first NFL start for the Cleveland Browns. The picture above of Brady with former Browns QB Bernie Kosar was taken before the game. Hopefully Brady has a long and productive career in a Browns uniform like Kosar, with the added accomplishment of a Super Bowl championship. (Hey, one can dream.)

Browns lose to Ravens, 37-27

Another one slips away.

The Browns lost at home to Baltimore. This was a must-win game for the Browns to have any shot at the playoffs. Sure, they’re far from being statistically eliminated. But for all practical purposes, this season is done.

Browns beat Jaguars, 23-17

I just don’t understand.

The Cleveland Browns, the team that has looked mediocre at best in every game except their Monday night win against the Giants, that should have lost today by two touchdowns, beat a good Jacksonville team on the road. And they did this without Pro Bowl tight end Kellen Winslow.

Or so the saying goes.

The Browns finally did the right thing in handling the whole Winslow debacle. They lifted his suspension and fined him $25,000.

Browns Problems

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Apparently the Browns problems go much deeper than an inconsistent QB, #1 WR with butterfingers, and a mediocre head coach. Some of these things were already apparent. Some are just now coming to light. Even from a distance, it’s apparent that this organization is in trouble.

The first six games of the season has made it clear that Derek Anderson is not the answer at starting QB. I don’t think he’d make a bad backup, but he can’t start. He’s had one good game out of six. That’s not good enough, especially when there is, potentially, a very good option in Brady Quinn on the bench.

What’s worse is that although most people can see that Quinn needs to start instead of Anderson, the head coach doesn’t see that. Why? I don’t know. Maybe Romeo’s too busy trying to figure out what situations warrant the use of a timeout. Whatever the reason, Quinn sits because Crennel won’t do anything. And Phil Savage, the GM, just sits back and lets this happen.
