Looking at the final score, it looks like the Buckeyes were on top of everything this game. The offense put up 31 points. The defense held the Badgers to 13. Good solid game right?
Not exactly. The defense and special teams won this game for the Buckeyes. They had two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns and one kickoff return touchdown. Take those away, and the Buckeyes lose 13-10 on Terrelle Pryor’s unimpressive 5/13, 87 yard, 1 TD, 1 INT performance.
Ohio State did jump to #7 in the polls this week thanks to their defense. They passed Cincinnati (#8) which was inactive this week. Other changes in the top 10 - Alabama (now #2) switched spots with Texas (#3) and LSU which lost to #1 Florida fell to #10.
Around the Big Ten, Iowa beat Michigan in a close game, 30-28. Minnesota beat Purdue, 35-20. Michigan State handed Illinois another loss, 24-14. The rest were non-conference games - Northwestern beat Miami (OH) 16-6, Penn State stomped Eastern Illinois 52-3, and Indiana got whipped by Virginia 47-7.
Ohio State and Iowa are still unbeaten in conference play. Next week the Buckeyes travel to Purdue and Iowa goes to Wisconsin. It the Badgers don’t make so many mistakes, the Buckeyes could be the lone unbeaten team in the Big Ten after this week.
