Bowling Green Hot Rods Moving to Midwest League in 2010

Bowling Green Hot RodsSaw the news tonight on Twitter that the Bowling Green Hot Rods are joining the Midwest League in 2010.

The Hot Rods played their inaugural season in the South Atlantic League. They finished in last place in the Southern division with a 64-74 record.

They were 2-1 in games where the wife and I were able to watch them at the ballpark. (Maybe that means we should try to go to more games this year.)

At first I was a little disappointed about the news. The Hot Rods were leaving the South Atlantic League which was also home to the Lake County Captains, an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. I really wanted to go see Lake County when they came to town. This season they came for one 4-game series at the end of July and we weren’t able to go. With the Hot Rods moving to a new league, my chance to see them play the Captains was gone.

But when I read the story about the Hot Rods move, I saw there was another South Atlantic League team moving to the Midwest League. That team was, coincidently, the Lake County Captains.

Even better, not only was Lake County moving to the Midwest League, but both teams are in the Eastern division (they were in different divisions this year in the SAL). This means they will face each other more than one series a year (like they did this season). The 2010 schedule shows these teams meeting 12 times in four 3-game series (2 in Bowling Green, 2 in Lake County).

Just need to make sure I’m free to go to at least one of those games.
