Browns lose to Vikings, 34-20

Brady Quinn - Cleveland Browns | Kevin Williams - Minnesota VikingsSo begins the Brady Quinn era.

Honestly, I didn’t expect much today. Still, after last night’s loss by Ohio State, I was hoping the Browns could pull this one off. It just wasn’t to be.

Cleveland was leading at halftime, thanks to a punt return TD by Josh Cribbs. They were up 13-10 at the half. While a lead at the half was nice, there was one disconcerting thing about it - no offensive touchdowns. This is what the Browns could not produce the last 6 games of the previous season. Now they were in danger of extending that streak.

In the second half, the defense gave up 24 unanswered points, putting the game well out of reach. After the Vikings’ last score, I turned the TV off. I’d seen enough.

The Browns did manage to score an offensive touchdown with 28 seconds left when Brady Quinn hit TE Robert Royal for a 26 yard touchdown. Thankfully the streak ended today.

Quinn didn’t have a really impressive game, but he didn’t have a bad game either. He completed 21 of 35 passes (60%) for 205 yards with a touchdown, an interception, and a fumble. He did display some mobility, avoiding some sacks, even rushing twice for 21 yards.

Overall, not too bad of a start for Quinn. The team is learning a new offense, has some new players, so there should be some period of making adjustments. Next week they play Denver, who only managed to beat the Bengals this week 12-7. Hopefully the Browns will have more luck in week 2.
