One Good Thing I Can Take from the NBA Finals

Courtney Lee - Orlando Magic There’s really not much good that can be found in the NBA Finals this year. With the Cavaliers failing to live up to the high expectations, I really had no interest in this series. I didn’t want to see the Lakers win. I didn’t want to see the Magic win. It didn’t matter if it was a good series or not. I just did not care.

But I was able to find one good thing about the Finals: Courtney Lee lost.

What’s my problem with Courtney Lee? It may seem strange for me to single out Orlando’s rookie starting guard. He’s not a superstar who led the overthrow of LeBron James and the Cavaliers. He’s not a dirty player. In fact, he might be a decent guy.

So what’s my problem with Courtney Lee? He played college ball at Western Kentucky University.

I live in Bowling Green, home of WKU. Last year, Courtney Lee was leading the Hilltoppers to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. This year, his team ended the Cavaliers’ dream season. Most of the ones in this town who had any interest in this year’s NBA Finals would have jumped on the Magic bandwagon on account of Lee. I did not want to have to listen to anyone “celebrate” their “team” winning the NBA championship after knocking out my team and leaving me with another year of celebrating nothing.

So thankfully, Courtney Lee and the Magic lost. Hopefully this will prevent anyone around here from talking about the Finals. I’d just rather forget this season.
