Lebron James, MVP

Today’s announcement came as no surprise to anyone who has been following the NBA this year. Lebron James is the MVP.
There are plenty of reasons why King James collected 109 out of 121 first place votes. He led the Cavaliers to the league’s best record (66-16), which was also a franchise best, securing home court advantage throughout the playoffs. The Cavs were 39-2 at home, and will have that edge in every playoff series this year. He averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game.
But more than just the numbers, Lebron James has made the Cleveland Cavaliers a contender. More than a contender, really. Finishing with the best record in the league, the Cavs are arguably the favorites and have a legitimate shot at winning a championship this year. When was the last time that’s happened? Never.
Lebron can’t win a championship by himself, as evidenced by the sweep to the Spurs in the Finals two years ago. But this Cavaliers team is a lot better than that group. They’ve got a shot this year, and it will take the whole team to do it. But #23 is the reason they’re at this level.
So congrats, Lebron, on a well-deserved award. We now look forward to you being named the Finals MVP this year as well.

I have to admit, he won me over with his acceptance speech. I listened to the award ceremony on the way home from work that day. He’s not only a talented basketball player but is wise beyond his years. I just wish he’d marry his boys’ mother!
