Cavs Update, 01.10.08
January 10th, 2009 at 2:46 am by Displaced Cleveland FanAre the Cavaliers the team to beat in the Eastern Conference?
Yes they are… for now.
Tonight the Cavs beat the Boston Celtics 98-83. This was without starting center Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Lebron James scored 38 points. And thanks in large part to his defensive effort, Boston’s Paul Pierce was held to just 11 points.
This win also improved the Cavaliers’ home record this season to 19-0.
So how is the Eastern Conference shaping up?
If the season ended today, the Cavaliers would have the #1 seed in the playoffs. Their 29-6 record is tied with the Lakers for the best in the NBA. Boston, with their recent slide, is 3rd in the conference - a half game behind Orlando. If this holds, and there’s another Cleveland/Boston series in the conference finals, game 7 (if such a series would go this far) will be in Cleveland. Home court advantage is huge (note the Cavs’ 19-0 home record).
It’s still early. But these stats are encouraging.
Now if they could just get rid of the new blue alternate uniforms.
