Cavs Update, 11.17.08

It’s been a little while since I mentioned the Cavaliers. I have to admit, it’s much easier to do regular updates on Browns and Buckeyes football since they only play once a week. With basketball games every 2-3 days, it’s hard to keep up with it all from a distance. But here’s the latest update.

After ten games, the Cavaliers are 8-2 and sitting atop the Central Division. Only two teams in the league have a better record - Boston and the L.A. Lakers, the two teams that were in the NBA finals last year. The Cavs have won 7 straight and are off to a great start.

The Cavaliers are even #2 in John Hollinger’s Power Rankings over at ESPN. He even puts them ahead of the Celtics. John Schuhmann over at nba.com has them at #1. Nice to see the Cavaliers are being noticed as a legitimate contender.

Lebron James, as expected, has put up good numbers up to this point - averaging 29.8 points (league lead), 8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game. He’s also been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the past two weeks.

Mo Williams, the big off-season acquisition, has also contributed nicely to the team. 15.9 points and 4.9 assists per game.

It’s still early. There’s a long basketball season ahead. But the start of the season is encouraging.

But for now, back to watching Brady Quinn and the Browns.
