Brady Quinn is the Starter
November 3rd, 2008 at 10:44 pm by Displaced Cleveland FanIt has been reported that Brady Quinn has replaced Derek Anderson as the Browns’ starting QB. He will start Thursday against Denver.
This news is both welcome and unexpected. I really didn’t expect Romeo Crennel to make the move this week. (Maybe he had pressure from upstairs?) But this needed to happen eventually.
Now I need to find a way to watch the game Thursday.
As exciting as this move is, we need to be realistic about it too:
- Brady Quinn is only going to have 3 days to prepare as the starter. Sure, he’s carried the clipboard and knows the plays. But actually playing is different. He doesn’t even have a full week to prepare with the offense.
- The Browns still have the same receivers as before. Braylon Edwards will probably add to his league-leading total of dropped passes. And Steptoe and Sanders, two backups, will get significant playing time because of injuries to other players.
- Brady Quinn is not going to save this season. The Browns are not going to pass the Steelers and Ravens in the division. There is too much competition for the wild card spots. This move is not to get to the playoffs this year, but to hopefully prepare for the playoffs next year.
- It’s possible that Brady Quinn will be no better than Anderson. I hate to say it, but that’s reality. We don’t know how good (or bad) Brady will be. That’s why this move was important now with the season already gone. Now we can find out. If he’s as good as we all hope, great. We’re set for next year. If he’s another Tim Couch, at least we can learn that now and make other plans for next year.
So now with that disclaimer out of the way, let the Brady Quinn era begin! Bring on the Broncos!
