And So It Continues

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

The Cleveland Cavaliers opened the 2008-09 season last night in Boston against the defending champs. The Celtics celebrated their title by passing out championship rings to the players and hoisting banner #17 to the rafters. They also began the defense of their title by beating the Cavaliers 90-85.

Of course, this was provided a good excuse for sportswriters to again talk about Lebron James leaving Cleveland.

Browns beat Jaguars, 23-17

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I just don’t understand.

The Cleveland Browns, the team that has looked mediocre at best in every game except their Monday night win against the Giants, that should have lost today by two touchdowns, beat a good Jacksonville team on the road. And they did this without Pro Bowl tight end Kellen Winslow.

Better Late than Never

Or so the saying goes.

The Browns finally did the right thing in handling the whole Winslow debacle. They lifted his suspension and fined him $25,000.

Ohio State loses to Penn State, 13-6

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

The nation can rest easy tonight.

It is no secret that the Buckeyes are one of the most unpopular teams in college football. After two national championship losses, the country dreaded the thought that Ohio State could be back in the title game for a third straight year.

Then came the 35-3 loss on September 13 to USC. Things looked promising for everyone who is not an Ohio State fan. But the Buckeyes would not go away. After getting Chris Wells back and inserting Terrelle Pryor into the starting QB spot, the team won 5 in a row coming into a showdown with #3 Penn State. A win would put Ohio State right in the hunt.

Browns Problems

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Apparently the Browns problems go much deeper than an inconsistent QB, #1 WR with butterfingers, and a mediocre head coach. Some of these things were already apparent. Some are just now coming to light. Even from a distance, it’s apparent that this organization is in trouble.

The first six games of the season has made it clear that Derek Anderson is not the answer at starting QB. I don’t think he’d make a bad backup, but he can’t start. He’s had one good game out of six. That’s not good enough, especially when there is, potentially, a very good option in Brady Quinn on the bench.

What’s worse is that although most people can see that Quinn needs to start instead of Anderson, the head coach doesn’t see that. Why? I don’t know. Maybe Romeo’s too busy trying to figure out what situations warrant the use of a timeout. Whatever the reason, Quinn sits because Crennel won’t do anything. And Phil Savage, the GM, just sits back and lets this happen.

Browns lose to Redskins, 14-11

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Back to reality.

That 35-14 win over the Giants last week that had Derek Anderson throwing for 300+ yards and 2 TDs, Braylon Edwards totally 154 receiving yards, and had Romeo Crennel “earning” Coach of the Week honors… that was a fluke. The real Cleveland Browns were back today against the Redskins.

Ohio State beats Michigan State, 45-7

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Now that’s more like it.

After an unimpressive win last week againt Purdue, the Buckeyes put together a great game against a good Michigan State team. This was probably the toughest game to date since the short-handed loss to USC in week 3. And by the score you’d think the opponent was Youngstown State, not #20 Michigan State.
